Since billionaire Elon Musk took over Twitter in October last year, life on Twitter has never been the same. He has made slew of changes with introduction of charge of $8 for a blue tick, increase in character limit, and the introduction of gold and silver ticks. The latest being introduction of TWITTER CASHTAGS.
What are Cashtags?
Twitter has introduced a new feature called “Twitter Cashtags.” Cashtags are similar to hashtags, but instead of using a hash sign (#), they use a dollar sign ($). Simply put, they are there to tag tweets related to a specific cryptocurrency or stock. Whenever anyone uses a cashtag in a tweet, it becomes a clickable link, which leads to a slew of tweets that include that particular cashtag. The cashtag is usually the same as the company or asset’s ticker symbol on exchanges like the NYSE.
Elon Musk’s social media platform has tied up with an Israel-based social trading company, eToro for the same. The main aim of the latest feature, permit users to view market charts and allow access to stocks, cryptocurrencies, and vast range of financial instruments including the ability to buy and sell stocks and other assets from eToro. In short, this partnership allows Twitter users access to a greater trove of financial data.
“We’ve seen more and more of our users interact on Twitter (and) educate themselves about the markets,” said eToro’s CEO Yoni Assia.
How Do Twitter Cashtags Work?
Clicking on a cashtag in an existing tweet or typing the cashtag into the search bar on Twitter leads you to a chart that shows the crypto/stocks’ current price and some basic information with a feed of tweets that include that particular cashtag. The cashtag results/search page shows the current price, daily change, and updated chart of cryptocurrency or stock. Clicking on to the View on eToro button below the crypo chart or stock it will take you to the eToro website, where you can buy and sell crypto on eToro if you wish to.
