Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Google Cloud revealed on March 21 that they have joined hands with Fletcher Building, a New Zealand-based firm, to build new platforms to drive innovation and manage workloads.
Fletcher’s Fetching Resume
One of the largest listed companies in New Zealand, Fletcher has over 20,000 employees globally and operates over 34 business units. The company is also listed on the Australian Securities Exchange Ltd and handles a plethora of businesses, including manufacturing, distribution, retail, home building, and major infrastructure projects, and has served in New Zealand, Australia, Americas, Pacific Islands, Asia, Europe, and Africa.
To keep up with the times, Fletcher Building launched the Digital@Fletchers programme to drive technological innovations that can make business processes more efficient.
Daniel Beecham, Chief Information Officer, Fletcher Building stated that the company believes that being digital is the way forward. “As we continue to ramp up our ecommerce, digitisation, automation and data analytics functions, we need a stable and secure technology platform that can cater to our needs today—and support us into the future. Google Cloud’s powerful data and analytics capabilities and its co-innovation agenda with SAP, combined with TCS’ domain industry knowledge and cloud engineering expertise, made it the logical choice to underpin Digital@Fletchers.”
Previously, the Auckland-headquartered company adopted Salesforce Software with the help of Deloitte Digital to ease customer management and to simplify business practices.
Fletcher’s Partnership with Google Cloud & TCS
By teaming up with Google Cloud and TCS, Fletcher Business aims to apply enterprise-grade, cloud capability that will equip it with the tools necessary to accelerate its digital growth.
While TCS will bring its extensive technical know-how and cloud experience, Google will help Fletcher’s employees implement and utilize these technologies.
TCS is a multinational Indian technology services company that is a subsidiary of the Tata Group. Headquartered in Mumbai, it operates in around 46 countries, has over 500,000 employees, and is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India.
Fletcher Building’s employees will have access to the Google Cloud Skills Boost learning pathway that contains over 700 courses, quests, and labs, to enhance one’s cloud skills.
Alister Dias, Vice President Google Cloud, Australia and New Zealand commented, “By partnering with Google Cloud and TCS, Fletcher Building is now able to modernize its mission critical systems for greater scalability and availability, build its data capabilities and deepen connections with customers —all on the industry’s cleanest cloud.”
A Sustainable Partnership
Google Cloud lists over 100 products under its umbrella. TCS will help Fletcher Building meet its sustainable goals by helping the company migrate its workloads to the carbon neutral infrastructure provided by Google Cloud.
Google Cloud recently announced various tools to measure, track, and reduce one’s environmental impact, through its product, Carbon Footprint. The net operational emissions associated with Google Cloud usage is zero. As companies become more environmentally conscious, partly propelled by Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) reporting, Carbon Footprint utilizes data-driven insights and cutting-edge technology to reduce future gross carbon emissions of clients.
Fletcher Building was previously recognized among Asia Pacific region’s most sustainable companies in the 2020 Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index. The company aims to implement sustainable practices as it builds infrastructure and homes.
Daniel Beecham puts it best as he admits, “As we transform our business, sustainability remains a paramount part of our strategy, and this extends to the partners we go on this journey with. As the cleanest cloud in the industry, Google Cloud shares our vision of creating a sustainable future by reducing carbon emissions and overall environmental impact.”
The company wishes to be a leader in improving the quality of life of the people, without compromising on their social and environmental responsibilities.
