Dubai has always been known as the playground of the rich. But the current administration wants the nation to be known for more than just that. Taking a step in that direction, Dubai’s tech district has been planned along the Al Jaddaf Creekside in Dubai, UAE.
The Dubai tech hub will be sustainable and foster innovation, as it works to advance net-zero carbon goals by proposing various cutting-edge green solutions to the world’s problems. It will be developed by URB and hopes to create over 4,000 jobs in the coming years. Across the world, companies are working on meeting the growing demand for sustainable solutions, including Tesla.
Dubai’s Tech District
URB plans to develop the world’s biggest Urban Tech District, spanning 140,000 square meters. The design team plans to build a sustainable model that will be a net-zero carbon hub. As Dubai’s tech hub, it will provide investment opportunities to innovators working on crucial problems pertaining to sustainability tech.
The Urban Tech District hopes to bring together the best minds in the business and will offer public-private partnerships to accelerate innovation. Dubai’s tech district aims to offer a climate-friendly ecosystem with facilities for training, research, conferences, business incubations, shared-desk spaces, and dedicated offices.
The dream to accelerate the world’s move towards environment friendly practices with the help of durable changes. Baharash Bagherian, CEO of URB, believes that Dubai is at the epicenter of a transformation and rightfully positioned to lead the new urban innovation.
His team stated, “Urban Tech will be at the core of all future cities. The global urban tech market is estimated to be $158 billion dollars, which is expected to grow rapidly in the next decade. Tech-enabled urban developments seek to provide solutions to the challenges created by urbanization in various areas such as zero-mile food production, food security, affordable & scalable renewable energy, low energy demand water harvesting, zero-waste management, and waste to energy solutions. These are just some of the many challenges our cities our facing.”
As a net-zero carbon hub, Dubai’s tech district will also assist businesses in reducing their carbon footprint. Each business in the Urban Tech District will enroll in a tenant zero carbon engagement program that will help raise collective awareness while optimizing current processes to adhere to global standards. Indoor lighting and temperature will be monitored by high-tech sensors, providing efficiency and luxury. The design strategies used for the building will focus on reducing energy usage by integrating green and natural elements, which studies have shown to aid creativity, productivity, and overall well-being.
The global urban tech market is estimated to be around $158 billion and set to grow exponentially in the coming decade.
Developmental Plans by the Kingdom
For years, Silicon Valley in the US has been at the center of tech innovation. But that is slowly changing as two years into the pandemic, people relocate for better work spaces, living costs, and to be closer to families.
In the UAE, the Urban Tech District is just part of the grand plans the kingdom has in building a grand future that is sustainable and technologically advanced. Part of its vision of making the UAE a central hub of innovation is the development of Neom City.
A few months back, Saudi Arabia unveiled plans for The Mirror Line, the kingdom’s answer to Egypt’s Pyramids if you will. The 75-mile-long desert skyscraper will be part of Neom, a smart city planned in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
The kingdom is trying to lure the wealthy and talented to build the city which is expected to be a center for data and intelligence in a new world.
Dubai’s tech hub is just another sign of how fast the region is keeping with the times.
Even China has plans to develop its own tech hub that support future science and technological innovation. The country has been dedicating a significant amount of funds to explore the potential in Beijing and Shanghai. Earlier, the Mayor of Beijing has stated that he would like to see the city fully supporting 10,000 tech companies by 2025. Only time will tell whether his dream will come to fruition, as China is currently involved in a tech battle with the US.
