Hollywood writers strike had finally resulted in a meeting for negotiations. Heads of the four big Hollywood studios have concluded a “marathon session” of WGA negotiations, which lasted more than ten hours, without reaching a deal Thursday evening, as per a report.
The source said that more progress was made during the WGA negotiations on Thursday, the second straight day of intense talks between the two sides for the end of Hollywood writers strike. Though a deal still has not been inked to end the historic Hollywood writers strike.
Negotiations for Hollywood writers strike end
Despite putting in a very long second day of direct talks for writers strike TO end, top CEOs, the AMPTP and the WGA did not close a deal tonight. While sources say both sides are open and willing to gather round the bargaining table, no further talks are officially scheduled.
However, negotiating committees for both the writers and the Carol Lombardini-run Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers studio bosses Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav, Disney chief Bob Iger, Netflix co-chief Ted Sarandos, and NBCUniversal studio chairman Donna Langley — resumed WGA negotiations on Wednesday. After the meeting, both sides issued a rare joint statement noting their discussions would continue the following day.
No results on WGA negotiations with studio
The fact that the two sides the studios and the WGA which at times have rebuked each other for comments to the media issued a joint statement signaled a possible sign of progress towards writers strike end.
Warner Bros. Discovery is CNN’s parent company.
As rumors of a writers strike deal swirled around town in the last 24 hours and intensified tonight, a number of points remained unresolved going into the 10th hour of talks Thursday. Unresolved issues and few last minute additions to a potential new three-year contract that the exalted dealmakers, their lawyers and the WGA brass simply got stuck on as the evening went on even as at least one CEO made it very clear they wanted Hollywood writers strike deal to wrap up before the weekend.
No word as of now from either the WGA or AMPTP as to what happened and what are the next steps. Yet, statements may be coming from the parties shortly, insiders say.
Writers Guild of America strike
Writers Guild of America strike started on May 2 with the work stoppage reaching its 143rd day on Thursday, putting it within two weeks of the longest strike in the union’s history, which lasted 154 days in 1988. Many productions had halted even before SAG-AFTRA joined the Hollywood writers strike on July 14.
Both sides have similar sets of demands, including better wages, residuals payments from streaming services for their work, and job protections against the use of artificial intelligence.
